Boys basketball: Melrose plays for state title at 1 p.m

The Melrose boys basketball team continued its magical postseason run with a 55-40 upset of top-seeded St. Croix Lutheran in the Class 2A state semifinals Friday night at the Target Center.
The fourth-seeded Dutchmen (27-5) advance to play the Caledonia at 1 p.m. Saturday in the state championship game. Caledonia beat Maple River in the other semifinal game Friday.
"I can't wait, this is awesome," Melrose junior forward Colton Meyer said. "We're in a state championship game. It doesn't matter who we play now. We're here. It's going to be a good game either way."
Melrose head coach Ryan Dusha has guided the Dutchmen to their first state championship game appearance since the 1974 season when they won it all behind Mark Olberding. The Dutchmen won the small school title that season and then beat Bemidji in the overall state title game.
